What equipment will I need?
A smart trainer, a Zwift account, a screen (iPad recommended), a stand or mount for the screen, a bike and a fan. Details:
Smart trainer: If you have your own smart trainer you should bring it. Compatible smart trainer list here. For those who don’t have a smart trainer, we will provide Wahoo Kickr SNAP’s for teams to use and even buy at a discounted price after the event. Thanks to FE Sports and Wahoo.
Zwift account: As part of your registration to Le Velo Virtuel, if you don’t have your own Zwift account, you will receive a complimentary ZWIFT account which will be available to you from registration until one day after the event.
Teams will log in to one instance for a team effort. Zwift can provide a new account for your team if you’d like to use a separate team account for race day.
Screen: iPhone, iPad or small computer

Bike: Bike needs to be a standard size road bike with 700c wheel size. As a team you can share one bike if you have similar measurements to your teammates or bring multiple bikes and swap them out as you go.
Fan: While it will be winter, you get hot when on a stationary trainer and a fan is recommended.
What information is required to register?

How long is the event?
Our event will commence as the gun goes off to start the penultimate stage of the 2019 Tour de France. It will end as the first rider crosses the finish line in Val Thorens in France.
Our overall winner will be the team/individual who covers the longest distance within that time. We will have other in-competition prizes that will be announced closer to the event.
Why do I have to weigh in. How will I do this?
Zwift uses your weight, height and power to calculate speed in the virtual event.
We will have an official commissaire who will weigh you in on the day. If you are a team, your collective weight, height will be calculated as an average.
What course will we be riding?
Zwift is creating a specific course for this event. It will include a bit of everything. Some flat sections, some small hills and a mountain top finish.
Can I wear my own jersey?
Yes, you may wear any jersey you like during the event. If you’re part of a club or corporate team it would be a fun idea to represent that team by wearing that jersey. We will have special prize categories for competitions between corporate teams and between club teams to add to the challenge. We will also have a special prize category for the best dressed team, dressed as your favourite Tour de France personality.
Is there a minimum age limit of participants?
There is no age limit. The requirement will be that the participants/teams can compete for up to 5 hours. Recommended minimum age is 15.
We will have fun kids races on the flat section of the velodrome for young kids and older kids can enter some of the fun track races on the night.
What fitness level will I need to be a participant?
Anybody can participate. No specific fitness level is required. You and your team just need to be willing to collectively ride for the time it takes to finish the race which will be approximately 4+ hours.
What training do you suggest in the lead up to the event?
Once registered and you receive your complimentary ZWIFT account you’ll find suggested training sessions for all abilities. We will also host a fortnightly training session with one of our ambassadors for beginners who would like to take part. If you’d rather just wing it, don’t worry and remember, the aim of this event is participation and raising funds for JDRF.
How can I participate from home, meeting room, local gym?
When you register for the event you’ll receive instructions on how to get set up to participate As long as you have a Zwift set-up and account as mentioned above, you’ll be able to participate.
Insurance and liability questions
When you registered for this event, you ticked the box that accepted our event waiver which can also be found HERE. On the event day you will also complete a liability form which covers both event organisers and participants.
What do I receive for my $100 registration (Melb/Syd)?
Dinner, an event sports towel, an event t-shirt and entry into an action-packed and energised venue of sound and movement for a world first event of its kind.
Can my family attend the event (Melb/Sydney)?
Yes, your family is welcome. We will be asking you how many people are coming prior to the event to help us with catering.
What will there be for my family to do/see?
- Fun kids races before the main event starts. All they’ll need to do is bring their bike. More info to come.
- Cycling celebrities on site for the family to meet.
- Food stands and music.
- Racing to watch that will be put on by Cycling NSW, Cycling Victoria and Cycling Australia.
Will there be food and beverage at the venues (Melb/Syd)?
Yes. We’ll have food trucks with a variety of options.
Can I bring my own food/beverage?
No outside food is allowed into the venue.
Will there be first aid at the event?
Yes and the local ambulance service will be aware that we are putting on an event in case of emergency.
Is there ample parking?
Yes there is plenty of parking at both venues.
Are there bike racks?
Bike racks will be provided.
